Expansion compensators are used to absorb pipe motion in systems with diameters (up to 4” in steel and 3” in copper). The standard compensators allow 2″ pipe motion, 1-3/4″ compression and 1/4″ extension. The units supplied by Keystone Steam Supplies provide you with a solution to take up thermal growth in the most cost-efficient way.
Unlike most standard models, the expansion compensators we supply are pressurized externally rather than internally. This external pressurization principle eliminates the possibility of the bellows buckling. This is an advantage because bellows buckling is one of the major causes that lead to compensator failure.
Expansion joints for larger diameter piping systems (up to 144”) are also available.

These pressure expansion compensators are designed for either steel or copper piping systems. For steam systems, they can handle maximum operating temperatures of up to 750 degrees Fahrenheit, maximum working pressures of 200 PSI and maximum test pressures of 300 PSI. Standard units are manufactured with male threaded ends, and have stainless steel bellows, and steel shroud and fittings. Other connection styles such as sweat, weld and flanged are also available.
For Copper Piping Systems, the compensators can handle maximum operating temperatures of up to 400 degrees Fahrenheit, maximum working pressures of 200 PSI and maximum test pressures of 300 PSI. Standard units are manufactured with female ends, and have stainless steel bellows and shroud and copper tube ends. Other connection styles are also available.
